By now, should the new “reboot” of the TV series MacGyver be judged by its own merits - instead of unfairly comparing it to the original mid 1980s era one by Lee David Zlofoff?

It looks like Season 2 of the new “reboot” of the iconic
1980s TV series MacGyver was judged rather more favorably in comparison to
Season 1, and yet many have asked if we should be judging the new MacGyver by
its own merits instead of oft—comparing it to the original one? Some will say “this
isn’t your dad’s MacGyver from the 1980s and it doesn’t need to be – or does
it?
Unlike Season 1 which was in an uphill battle in competition
with nicely written and made returning TV series - i.e. a 24 without Jack Bauer
and a Prison Break season battling the so-called Islamic State and rogue CIA
agents, the writers of the new MacGyver reboot seem to manage to redeem itself
when compared to its previous season. But one things for sure, the cast of the
new MacGyver is way more diverse that the original one despite of Richard Dean
Anderson still holding the title as the “most believable MacGyver”. At least
the appearance of the original Jack Dalton – Bruce McGill - as another
character seems like a badly needed breath of fresh air on the new series.
